Overwatch’s Halloween Event PvE brawl: Junkenstein’s Revenge is completely amazing IMHO.

It is a epic PvE Coop Experience akin to a MMO Instance / Dungeon Crawl with fun mechanics and all that jazz.

Overview:

This PvE Brawl is a 4 player event that only allows you to choose Ana (Alchemist / Healer), McCree (Gunslinger), Soldier 76 (Soldier), and Hanzo (Archer).

There will be four types of Enemies / Targets / Mobs that you will have to worry about throughout the Event.

First is the Reddish Zominic “Minions” (much like League of Legends, for a easy comparison), there will be tons of these “trash mobs”, they have very low health, move very slowly, and don’t attack.  The only threat from these guys is once they get to the castle door they will blow up doing damage to the door and the players close enough to the blast radius.

Second is the Bluish Zombardier mobs that will randomly spawn throughout the Event.  These mobs will not approach or attack the door at all, these mobs specifically attack you the players with Blue Plasma Balls / Bombs that work and act a lot like Zarya’s Particle Cannon right click / alternate attack (Lob Bombs) that do quite a bit of damage as well as a small knock / push back.

Third is Dr. Junkenstein’s Rip-Tires.  Throughout the Event Dr. Junkenstein will release Rip-Tires, this happens 7 or 8 times throughout the Event.  The Rip-Tires with B Line very quickly to the Door and Blow up for Massive Damage.  These won’t attack or injure you at all unless you are next to the door when they explode.  These by far do the most damage to the door and should be top priority on the kill list when they appear.  Dr. Junkenstein will do the Vocal Announcement for the attack much like Junkrat does in any normal game when he uses his Ultimate Rip-Tire Ability as well as it making its loud iconic “engine” / “motorcycle” type noise.

Fourth is the Boss Mobs / AI Heroes you will fight over the Event.  The Headless Horseman / Pumpkin Head (Reaper), Junkenstein’s Monster (Roadhog), Dr. Junkenstein himself (Junkrat), and The Witch (Mercy).

Strategy:

Ok so now to go over some basic strategy here.  This PvE Brawl has only been out just over 24 hours so it is still new to everyone and people are still learning it. I get that, but after playing this all night on just Medium difficulty it was easy to see how bad some players are and how tunnel visioned they get.

They keep playing this mode as if they were playing against players instead of handling it like a PvE MMO instance / dungeon that it is.

So the most important thing to point out during this “Event” is Target Priority / Order while dealing with the event.

IMHO the priority should go as followed, from most important target to burn down ASAP to least. McCree & Hanzo can one shot the Blue & Red Robot Zombies with headshots.

  1. Rip-Tires: These things are random, pretty fast, erratic, and do the most damage to the Castle Gates / Door.  I’ve seen people have the most trouble with these honestly, if it wasn’t for these damn tires I would have ended up completing this event many times without any damage done to the door. So burn these down as soon as you see / hear them!

  2. The Blue Zombardier Mobs:  Like mentioned above, these guys won’t go near the door, nor will they attack it. Their whole purpose is to harrass and kill you, thus making your life miserable, kill them ASAP (as soon as they spawn would be best).

  3. The AI Boss / Hero Mobs:  They won’t attack the door either, just the players, pretty self explainatory, I explain more about the Fights / Timeline Below.

And Last but certainly not least….

  4. The Red Zominic “Minion” / “Trash Mobs”: They won’t attack you or do any damage to you directly, they will travel slowly to the door and blow up doing damage to the door and any player in range.  You obviously don’t want to ignore them or let them get close to the door but they are the lowest priority targets unless they are on top of the doors for obvious reasons.

Setup:

Again IMHO the best setup / positioning / whatever you want to call it for this Event is:

McCree on the Left hand side of the Map on the Staircase / Overwatching Balcony taking care of shit on that side.

Soldier 76 holding down the Middle of the Map between the two “Moat” areas.

Hanzo on the Right hand side of the Map watching the Doorway / Archway (really easy to get headshots as then trickle out the Doorway/Archway as well as using the environment over there for Scatter Arrow).

Ana in the back, in the middle in front of the door as the last line of defense.  Overwatching everyone and everything. Healing, doing Damage, Debuffing with Biotic Grenade, and Sleeping annoying AI Boss / Hero Mobs or other High Priority Targets. (Listed Above)

Note: It is important to make sure you have your Ultimates & CC CDs (Stun Grenade & Sleep Dart)  up during Boss Fights, especially the Final Fight since most of the earlier ones are just Solo Boss Mobs, but the Sleep Dart could prove useful on the Blue Bomber Guys or Reaper if your DPSers are awful.

Roles / Jobs / When to use your Ultimate:

After playing through the Event a couple times you will get a better feel for the flow of the fight and what not.

Don’t be afraid to use your Ultimate to clear the Instance of Trash Mobs if needed but like I said they are most important during the Boss Fights for more than Obvious Reasons.

Note: This isn’t Quick Play or Competitive Modes, you aren’t fighting players. Get that shit out of your head. This is the biggest problem I’m seeing in this Event people are playing this PvE event as if it was PvP or something. (Best way I can put it “nicely”).

The AI Boss / Hero Mobs aren’t going to die as quickly / easily as Players will, your Ultimate while important isn’t as devastating as you think it may be or typically / normally is against Players.

The most important thing to Note is, Don’t get TUNNEL VISIONED on the AI BOSS / HERO MOBS and forget about the Event Objectives / Target Priorities.  The Tires & Trash needs to stay under control if you want to keep the door at 100% health.

McCree:

McCree’s job other than obviously doing DPS and Headshotting the shit out of everything is CCing with this stun grenade during boss fights / on annoying priority targets. You also want to use his Ultimate whenever it is up / necessary to keep the Floor / Instance clear of Trash Mobs.

Any Second you aren’t Shooting / Landing Headshots is a loss of DPS, Deadeye will pretty much Insta-Lock on to the Red and Blue “Trash Mob” Robot Zombies.

I’ve seen too many McCree’s in this Event hold on to DeadEye till Boss Fights, activate it, and stand there waiting for the Shield / Kill Shot icon to come up over the AI Boss / Hero Mobs head (which won’t happen, unless they are very low health, like I said this is PvE not PvP it works differently in this mode as to keep it challenging) while tons of Trash Mobs totally decimate the Door.

I understand, during the Boss fights, focusing and DPSing the Boss down is important, but you can’t lose sight / track of all the Trash mobs, they will Blow up the Door and you will lose the event.

If you are McCree your Ultimate’s job is to keep the Floor clean so everyone can focus on the Bosses’ during the fights (INCLUDING YOU), you have plenty of time to CC and Headshot DPS the Boss down with your Regular Shots after you clear the Floor / Keep it Clear with your Ultimate.

Hanzo:

Hanzo’s job other than obviously doing DPS and Headshotting the shit out of everything is using his Ultimate for Massive DPS on the AI Boss Mobs.

At the beginning of every boss fight Hanzo should be shooting his Ultimate through the AI Boss / Hero Mob(s) covering as much as the map with his Ultimate as possible.

Again you want this Ultimate up for Boss Fights, but once you understand the flow of the fight don’t be afraid to use it to keep the Floor clear of Trash Mobs as well.

(On Reaper you may want to wait till after his Wraith Form)

The Boss Mobs always start the fight in the middle and that is where Soldier 76 should be trying to hold the Boss Mob while “Tanking” it. After that he should go back to the right side of the map and continuing DPS of everything.

Soldier 76:

Soldier 76’s job other than obviously doing DPS and Headshotting the shit out of everything is to be holding down the Center of the Map, the Walkway between the two side “Moats”.

This is where you will be trying to Hold / “Tanking” the AI Boss  / Hero Mobs.  Use your heal whenever you need it. Keep moving / dodging.  Use your Helix Rockets when available, groups of clumped up Trash Mobs are good choices for this.

Like with Hanzo you want to make sure your Ultimate is up for the Boss Fights.  Use your Ultimate to Melt Down the AI Boss Heroes in conjunction w/ Ana’s Nano Boost Ultimate.

Use Helix Rockets every time they are up while in your Ultimate mode because much like your regular bullets they won’t miss with Tactical Visor and do lots of yummy damage.

Ana:

Ana’s job IMHO is obviously healing and keeping everyone fighting…    I.E. not dead.

Other than the obvious you want to also be putting out DPS when you can.

You can be a huge help headshotting down the Blue Guys with your scope.

Obviously you want your Sleep Dart CD up for Boss Fights, for the most part other than the Final Fight with all 4 AI Boss Mobs you will more than likely be using this on the Blue Guys that aren’t dead yet (or Possibly Reaper).

Bionic Grenade for Healing / Debuffing the AI Boss Mobs.

Like everyone else you want to make sure your Ultimate is up for AI Boss Mob fights.

IMHO you should be using this on Soldier 76 in conjunction with his Ultimate Ability Tactical Visor for the most possible DPS, like I mentioned above He can’t miss while Tactical Visor is activated, thus no loss DPS. (AKA Maximum DPS)

Event Timeline:

So there is a slight change between easy/medium and Hard. Hard gains an additional Rip-Tire early on. Also would like to mention that if you don’t kill the second Reaper and just survive, he’ll kill himself to summon the 3rd encounter.

Rip tires:
5:50 Right (Hard only)
5:30 Left
3:55 Middle
3:40 Left
3:20 Right
2:20 Right
0:50 Left + Right
0:30 Middle

Bosses:
4:45 Reaper
2:50 Roadhog
1:50 Reaper
1:30 Junkrat
0:40 Reaper
0:00 Mercy (Junkrat, Roadhog, & Reaper)

Note: These times are rounded to the nearest 5 seconds.

You will Fight Reaper, Roadhog, and Junkrat each by themselves first.

At some point in the Event you will get an Announcement and you will fight Reaper first. This is a straight up basic bitch fight with Reaper, but it is AI not a player so nothing too surprising.

Start DPSing Reaper to draw out his Wraith Form, after Wraith Form is down pop Ultimates and burn his ass down quick.

After he is down you will go back to fighting just the “Trash Mobs”, Blue Guys, and Tires.

After awhile you will get another Announcement and you will fight Roadhog, and shortly after Reaper will show up again.

This fight can go one of two ways, you either burn down Roadhog really fast (recommended) and if you can do that you end up fighting Roadhog and Reaper both by themselves.

If you are two slow on the DPS Reaper may show back up while you are fight Roadhog, so be ready and aware of it!  Would be good for Ana to be ready with a sleep dart for Reaper if this happens.

After Roadhog is down, and Reaper again for the 2nd time, everything will go back to normal with the “Trash Mobs”, Blue guys, and Tires for a little while.

Next you will get another Announcement telling you that you will be facing Dr. Junkenstein himself.

He appears on the far side of the map on a upper wooden balcony.  Unlike regular Junkrat he apparently never needs to reload, he will be spamming grenades like crazy everywhere, keep alert and mobile and burn him down.

Much like the Roadhog fight, Reaper will be showing up again, if you can burn down Junkrat quick enough it will again be easy fights against Solo AI / Hero / Boss Mobs.  If not have Ana be ready to Sleep one of the two Heroes depending on who you are focus firing on at the moment / who has the lowest health left.

After that again it goes back to normal with the “Trash Mobs”, Blue guys, and Tires.

Final Fight of the Event happens with again another Announcement where it shows The Witch (Mercy) who then Resurrects the entire team, at which time you now fight all 4 AI Boss / Hero Mobs.

Due to Junkrat’s unlimited ammo and not having to reload I personally Recommend IMHO for Ana to do her best to keep him Sleep Darted for as long as possible till you are ready to focus him down.

Other than that obvious target priority order would be Mercy, then Reaper, then either Roadhog or Junkrat depending on whose health is the lowest while keeping the other while CCed / Asleep.

And that is that, you are Victorious.  If you followed the Guide Close enough you should have beat this with no deaths and no damage to the door, CONGRATS!
